In the global industrial sealing market, AESSEAL® is a prominent name. However, today’s maintenance engineers and procurement specialists are increasingly looking for reliable, high-quality alternatives that offer the same—if not enhanced—performance with better lead times and technical support.

At FBU Sealing Technology, our GSM and GDM series are specifically engineered as direct, "drop-in" replacements for AESSEAL's most popular cartridge seals. We provide a seamless transition with a focus on structural stability and thermal efficiency.

1. Single Seal Replacement: FBU GSM vs. AESSEAL SISS™, SISR™, and SMSS™

For applications currently utilizing the AESSEAL SISS™, SISR™, or SMSS™ single cartridge seals, the FBU GSMoffers a robust stationary solution designed for the most demanding chemical pump environments.

Why the FBU GSM is the Preferred Alternative:

  • Stationary Design Advantage: Unlike many rotary-style seals, the FBU GSM uses a Stationary Pusher Cartridge design. This allows the seal to handle higher shaft speeds and significant misalignment more effectively than traditional rotary equivalents, ensuring longer life in aging equipment.

  • Integral Structural Integrity: While some competitors use an "inlay" process for seal faces, FBU utilizes an integral structural design. This eliminates the risk of ring shedding or end-face displacement under high pressure or thermal cycling, providing a stable seal up to 160°C (320°F).

  • High-Viscosity Reliability: The GSM’s sealing ring drive is designed with an expanded contact area. This prevents drive pin damage during the high-torque startup of pumps handling viscous liquids—a common failure point in standard single seals.

  • Optimized Cooling: For shaft diameters exceeding 35mm, the GSM is equipped with a large 3/8" interface to maximize flush flow, ensuring the seal faces stay cool even in heavy-duty cycles.

2. Double Seal Replacement: FBU GDM vs. AESSEAL DMSF™ and DMSC™

For critical hazardous or high-purity processes requiring AESSEAL DMSF™ or DMSC™ double seals, the FBU GDM series provides a high-performance, stationary double-balanced alternative.

The GDM Technical Edge:

  • Double Balanced Integral Rings: To match the safety profile of the DMSF™, the GDM features a double-balanced design. This ensures the seal can withstand sudden pressure fluctuations within the stuffing box without compromising the integrity of the barrier fluid.

  • Superior Barrier Circulation: The GDM incorporates an integrated bidirectional flow design and a high-efficiency pumping ring. This ensures significantly better barrier liquid circulation compared to standard designs, effectively removing heat and extending the Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF).

  • Face-to-Back Configuration: Our stationary pusher configuration is ideal for chemical applications where the process media might contain solids or crystallize, as it keeps the springs protected from the media.

  • Dimensional Interchangeability: The GDM is designed for modular cartridge installation, fitting ISO2858standard chambers and other compact housings without requiring any pump modifications.

FAQ

1: Are FBU seals truly interchangeable with AESSEAL models?

Yes. The FBU GSM and GDM series are designed to meet the same dimensional envelopes as the AESSEAL SISS/SMSS and DMSF/DMSC series. They are direct "drop-in" replacements requiring no equipment modification.

2: What is the benefit of the "Integral Ring" design over the "Inlay" process?

Inlay processes press a hard face material into a metal carrier. Over time, different thermal expansion rates can cause the face to become loose (ring shedding). FBU’s integral design uses a solid component structure, ensuring the face remains perfectly seated even at its 160°C limit.

3: Can the GSM handle high-viscosity fluids?

Absolutely. We have specifically engineered the drive mechanism with a larger contact area to handle the increased torque loads found in viscous applications, making it an excellent alternative to the SISR™.

4: Does the GDM require a specific barrier fluid system?

The GDM is compatible with standard API Plan 52, 53A, 53B, and 54 systems. Its internal pumping ring is optimized to work with standard barrier fluids to maximize heat dissipation.
