Reverse Engineering

As the name implies, reverse engineering differs from the forward design process. It involves establishing a 3D CAD model based on data obtained from the surface of existing parts or product prototypes. With the widespread application of machine vision technology in the manufacturing sector, especially the rapid development of digital measurement, using 3D scanning technology to acquire spatial data of object surfaces for product design has become a key application direction of reverse engineering. 3D scanning provides the most convenient and efficient technology for reverse engineering. Compared with traditional surveying and mapping methods, 3D scanning obtains the most accurate and comprehensive prototype data, which significantly reduces the processing difficulty for designers and shortens the design cycle.
