  • The case for cartridge seals has very little to do with the seal
Most of the savings show up at installation, not in service. A cartridge unit arrives pre-assembled and pre-set. The technician slides it on, bolts the gland, pulls the setting clips. There is no dimension to measure, no spring compression to guess at, and no delicate face left exposed on the bench while someone else hunts for the right O-ring. Installation errors — still the single most common cause of early seal failure we see — mostly disappear. Changeout time drops accordingly. On a pump that gets pulled two or three times a year, that is real production hours back. One caveat: a cartridge seal does not fix a bad flush plan. If you are running API Plan 11 into a service that needs Plan 32, the seal will fail regardless of how it was assembled. So the question is less "which seal is better" and more "how much of your seal life is being lost before the pump ever starts." Where does most of your seal-related downtime actually come from — installation, or the service conditions?   Read More>
