The PVES type engineering seal and HEF heat exchanger enable significant cost savings for customers.
At a copper smelting enterprise, the installation of PVES-type engineering seals and HEF heat exchangers has resulted in savings of tens of thousands in maintenance and repair costs for the company.
The company was using a split mechanical seal on a hot water circulation pump at their copper smelting plant. The installation of the rotating ring required highly skilled maintenance personnel, and any errors during installation could lead to water or steam leakage from the mechanical seal. This resulted in seal failure and subsequently affected production. Additionally, the pump's cooling water design was inefficient: the cooling water for the mechanical seal first passed through two pump fixed bases, then through the bearing housing, and finally reached the mechanical seal. After passing through the first two stages, the cooling water temperature was too high to effectively cool the mechanical seal and bearing housing. This significantly shortened the service life of the mechanical seal. As a result, the pump required major overhauls every six to nine months, along with costly replacement and repair of the seal components.
To reduce maintenance costs, the company contacted FBU to seek an economical and effective alternative solution.FBU recommended replacing the split mechanical seal with a cartridge-type PVES engineering seal and upgrading to an HEF heat exchanger, along with redesigning the cooling water pipeline. This cartridge-style seal features a modular design, making maintenance more convenient.
The new cartridge mechanical seal was installed in October 2022. Three and a half years later, it continues to operate reliably. FBU's cost-effective maintenance solution and quick installation have already saved the company approximately RMB 200,000. The company now plans to install PVES engineering seals and HEF heat exchangers on another pump.

The PVES engineering seal is primarily designed for high-pressure applications beyond the API 682 standard. Its key features include a statically compensated design that ensures stable operation under high temperatures, as well as reinforced sealing rings and metal components.

The HEF heat exchanger is mainly used in PLAN21/23 applications where the pumped medium pressure exceeds 25 bar and the temperature exceeds 150°C. Its characteristics include lower tube resistance, higher heat exchange efficiency, and higher maximum temperature and pressure tolerance.
